Sylvie spent the past 3 days free of medicine so Sylvie's lab work would determine if that was bad idea. Her hemoglobin was 10.1 which is low but considering last Monday it was lower than 6, it could be much worse. Her ANC (absolute neutrophil count) was 1850 which is decent and plenty high enough to begin chemo this afternoon. After 2 hours, Annette came in to tell us that on Friday, Sylvie's magnesium level was 1.4 (low). 3 days later and with no supplemental magnesium, Sylvie's level is 1.5 (NORMAL). Yeay! There is no explanation for it and none needed! She was previously taking around 1600 mg of Magnesium daily which is enough for a small horse. If she continues eating, I may just crush magnesium tablets into her smoothies.
Once again, Sylvie is back in Room 4. I did tell the nurses that although we may wax nostalgic about our little slice of paradise on 5East however it's also like Antarctica in there. I have to put princess decals on the door because we've been in so many rooms that we'd forget which one otherwise. Her new friend Jett is down the hall. Jett's a little older than her and has taken Sylvie under her wing after only 1 brief encounter in the art room. She's made Sylvie pictures and even got her a My Little Pony puzzle. Oddly enough, we have a playdate tomorrow in the hospital so long as both girls are feeling up to it.
Kristen was Sylvie's nurse during the afternoon and started Sylvie's Doxo ("Red Devil") and then Cisplatin. Sylvie wasn't even scared by the hazmat suit and mask this time. Sylvie also sang a mean rendition of Amy Adams "That's How You'll Know" from the movie Enchanted for her. At 8 pm, Pinky came by to say that she'd be Sylvie's nurse for the night. Just to refresh your memory, the last time Pinky was Sylvie's nurse, Sylvie pretended to sleep and smashed Pinky on the head with her Disney princess camera. Tonight however, Sylvie was chatting up a storm with her. Let bygones be bygones!
Michael is sleeping there tonight. Needless to say I am praying that Sylvie does not get stomach sick for both of their sakes. She asked for pancakes for dinner tonight and when they arrived she eagerly waited while I slathered them with butter and maple syrup (remember-- I'm looking to add calories!). I proceeded to cut them into precise little pieces only to have Sylvie say, "Mom, I don't want to eat pancakes, I just want to smell them."
