April Fools Part Deux

This afternoon, Michael and I went running at the Duck Pond. It's not a matter of being upstaged by Strides For Sylvie friends, family and neighbors at the Memorial Day run but right now, we're barely competent to walk the 1 miler pushing Sylvie in the jogging stroller.

I was taking a shower in Sylvie's room when I heard my dad pass the phone to Michael.
"Hi Marianne" (the advanced practice nurse
"Uh hmm"
"Um let me ask my wife."

I expected it.

We had a choice. Sylvie's hemoglobin was low and she needs a blood transfusion. We can do it tonight or come back tomorrow. I immediately suggested tomorrow and I think Michael was upset with me. It's not that I didn't want to go home as a family. More like I didn't want to put Sylvie through the ordeal of Emla cream at 8 am, car at 8:30, fit in parking garage at 9:00 am, 9:30 insert port needles, 1 hour for Benadryl, 3 hours for blood transfusion. I can't possibly go home tonight only to spend most of tomorrow back in the outpatient clinic. So instead, Sylvie and I are spending one more night in Room 10 where she'll receive a blood transfusion while she sleeps. I know that Andy donated blood last week so perhaps Sylvie is getting some A+ NJ lawyer blood this evening. If tomorrow Sylvie asks us for a Sierra Nevada, Ribeye with white rice on the side and a cannoli for dessert and starts yelling "I OBJECT!" at the nurses, then we will know for sure.

Sibel had already packed up some of our belongings in the trunk so I ran down and retrieved my ceramic mug, Tazo Chai tea, Anthroplogie bowl, granola, lemon juice and Udo's green stuff. Trust me, if I didn't have all that, I might wind up eating 5 packs of Oreo minis and 3 Cozy Shack vanilla pudding packs.

Fortunately we can go home tomorrow morning before rounds.
