After a fun afternoon filled with friends and family, Sylvie's temperature began creeping from 99 to 100.1 to 100.7 to 100.8 and then 101.4 and 102.7. The bloody nose returned and so did we to the Emergency Room.
At this point they know us and we know the drill, too. Joanie immediately escorted Sylvie and I to a room where she profusely apologized for our last time in the ER when she had left for the night and the other nurses had no idea what to do with Sylvie's port. In any case, today we had VIP treatment and Joanie wouldn't let anyone enter our room besides nurses Melanie and Grant (the 6'4" male nurse who Michael cracks tall-jokes to all night long). Sylvie's fever was up to 104. Joanie stayed 2 hours past her shift.
Sylvie's hemoglobin had dropped to 5.2 (11-14 is normal) and her platelet count was 12 (normal is 135-430 and Sylvie's was 80 last Thursday). Hence Sylvie needs both platelets and red blood cells pronto. Protocol requires Sylvie staying for 48 hours and if there is an infection, 14 days from when the culture first grew bacteria.
We're back in original Room 4 and Sylvie was pretty excited that Courtney is her nurse for the night.
Michael is taking one for the team and sleeping over.
